MÈTA – CORPORIS
works by Carlo Iacomucci and Maria Grazia Focanti
April 17 – May 7, 2025
Palazzo Bisaccioni – Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Jesi
The exhibition, promoted by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Jesi and curated by Sara Tassi (Vice President of Fondazione CRJ), aims to offer a further space for reflection on contemporary art through the works of Carlo Iacomucci and Maria Grazia Focanti.
Despite the stylistic and expressive diversity of their production, the pictorial souls of the two artists reflect a correspondence with the theme of the becoming of corporeality.
The physical space of the exhibition is defined and divided into two separate but contiguous environments to emphasize and enhance the pictorial identity of each and to establish an artistic counterpoint, a symphony in two movements, a lyric in two stanzas.
The theme of the exhibition is encapsulated in the very title Mèta – corporis, which associates two terms of different nature and etymology: mèta derives from the Greek μετά which means, among the many possible meanings, "beyond", while corporis, which derives from the Latin corpus, more intuitively means "body". The entire expression can be translated in various ways but the most identifying one is beyond bodies, recalling by sound and meaning the term metamorphosis, a topos of literature since antiquity and an inspiration for art of all times.
Translating the Greek meaning to current usage, the exhibition path is in fact divided in half, in a spatial balance where each artist can express their own identity and creativity. The body is the subject of the paintings on display, emerging from a gestation that attempts to freeze the becoming of the artistic gesture in a completed form.
The approach of the figure to the human, the memory of the corporeal element that becomes other than itself and beyond itself, makes the work of the two artists particularly fascinating and evocative. The painted figures are positioned beyond bodies because the appearance of the form detaches from mimesis to land in a new version of the human, through an artistic metamorphosis that allows the bodies to express themselves beyond the apparent canon.
The powerful and wise gesturality of Iacomucci contrasts with the calm and serene conduct of Focanti. The decisive and scratching hand of Iacomucci defines the female body as the recomposition of a primordial chaos, whose pivot is the sign that, after defining the drawing underlying the painting, deconstructs the figure, renaming with color a new metamorphosed cosmos: it is an anatomy of the negative that works by covering the preparatory sign, so that the material nature of the body-gesturality emerges.
Focanti's pictorial vision is the opening to a dreamlike world in which the phenomenal data merges with the symbolic one. The approach of forms and colors to the recognizability of nature contrasts with spurious elements that appear and linger on the canvas: in particular, the face becomes a synecdoche of the body, a part for the whole, a profile rooted in the space that surrounds it in a pantheistic metamorphosis of the human.
On the occasion of the event, the exhibition catalog will be presented, where twenty works by each artist have been included, the same ones set up in the exhibition. The texts in the catalog are by Sara Tassi and Patrizia Minnozzi.
The inauguration will take place on Thursday, April 17 at 5:30 pm with a presentation of the artists by the curator of the exhibition. The exhibition will be open to the public with free admission, every day from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm and from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm, according to the opening hours of Palazzo Bisaccioni.

Long linked to the city of Ancona, the Premio Marche 2023 has, on this special occasion, become itinerant, with a dual exhibition venue. After its inaugural opening in Urbino on 25 November at the Galleria Civica d’Arte Albani, the exhibition moved on 1 March to the prestigious MARV – Museo d’arte Rubini Vesin in Gradara (PU). There it takes the form of a monographic show entitled “Intorno allo stato dell’arte nelle Marche”, a re-examination of the Marche artists featured at the Venice Biennale marking the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification, selected for their alignment with the Scientific Committee’s critical perspective.
Curatorial strands
Culture, Tradition and the Languages of Contemporary Art, curated by art critic Andrea Carnevali
The Artists’ Sense for Nature, curated by critic and art journalist Cecilia Casadei
With this edition, the Premio Marche 2023 has returned to its roots as the National Contemporary Art Biennale, and will remain open until 9 June 2024. Its aim is to celebrate the work of Marche artists and to deepen the region’s appreciation and knowledge of the visual arts. Above all, it seeks to promote contemporary art throughout Italy by identifying and showcasing both established and emerging Marche talents, selected and invited by the Scientific Committee.
Art historian Cecilia Casadei has invited the Urbino-born engraver and painter Carlo Iacomucci, who is presenting two of his works as a testament to his fertile career in both media. Iacomucci’s canvases amplify the viewer’s sense of wonder, balancing marks, traces and droplets on the very edges of each scene to create dreamlike compositions where fiction and reality meet. His paintings focus on concrete themes of existence and the natural world, engaging the audience sensorially and emotionally with vibrant, evocative imagery.
In his work you’ll discover dense networks of lines, traces, droplets, kites and wind-blown vortices moving sinuously across the surface. These elements, enriched by bright hues spanning every shade of cool and warm tones, are skilfully blended into a whimsical kaleidoscope of vivid colours. The result is dynamic canvases that convey both a symbolic and realistic message about the importance of defending our natural environment.
Iacomucci—one of the Marche’s most representative contemporary artists—boasts a distinguished CV: named one of the eight “Marchigiani dell’Anno” in 2014, he has garnered numerous national and international accolades, including the title of Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic for his cultural and artistic contributions. His international exhibitions include participation in the 54th Venice Biennale – Pavilion Italy by Regions, curated by Vittorio Sgarbi. In February 2020 he was awarded the Pegaso Prize for Best Drawing by the Italian National Institute of Health. In 2021 his solo show “Il viaggio di Carlo Iacomucci fra pittura e incisione” was held at the Sale Museali di Palazzo Bisaccioni in Jesi, and in 2023 he presented “Il Segno Inciso di Carlo Iacomucci”, curated by Luca Pernici with critical texts by Loretta Fabrizi, Giovanni Filosa and Patrizia Minnozzi, at the Spazio Monumentale di Santo Spirito in Cingoli.

I NOTI ARTISTI CARLO IACOMUCCI E MARIA GRAZIA FOCANTI REALIZZANO UN'OPERA PER IL "CAMMINO DI S. ANNA" ALLA CASA DEGLI ARTISTI DEL FURLO a due passi da Urbino.
Carlo Iacomucci and Maria Grazia Focanti have painted a panel for the Casa degli Artisti at Furlo, just a few kilometres from Urbino.
This Land Art piece, entitled “Impossible Landscape in Freedom”, is a 1 × 2 m lightweight-cement panel created in situ for the “Cammino di Sant’Anna”.
In the small village of Sant’Anna—situated within the Land Art Park in the Furlo Gorge Nature Reserve—the “Cammino di Sant’Anna” was born. Promoted and curated by Andreina De Tomassi and Antonio Sorace, the trail follows an ancient drovers’ path through a flowering wood of acacias and roses. Over the years, many artists from Italy and abroad have contributed to this collective work, leaving installations and artworks that you can experience barefoot, surrounded by the forest’s scents.
Different techniques—from painting to sculpture—dot the route, each artist leaving their own mark and forging a dialogue with every visitor. It’s truly an “Art Walk,” where walking becomes an act of seeing, reflecting and immersing yourself in the beauty of the surroundings.
The two Marche artists have produced one of the 20 panels needed to complete the 100 viewing platforms along the path.
The project will be inaugurated on 7 September 2024 as part of the events for Pesaro – Italian Capital of Culture 2024.
The Casa degli Artisti del Furlo is an open-air museum set in pristine countryside. A visit here recharges both mind and body, promoting sustainable art and beauty as a collective necessity—truly a model of “high culture.”
